Welcome to Drowne Road School
Message from Principal Bubar
September 2, 2008

Dear Parents, Guardians and Students:

Welcome back to school for the 2008-2009 school year at Drowne Road School (DRS). Hopefully, you have enjoyed a summer full of fun with family and friends. We look forward to seeing our third graders on the first day of school, which is Tuesday, September 2nd. Keep in mind that all students are new to the building, so we will work to make this transition as smooth as possible for everyone.

Please, mark your calendars for several upcoming events. Next Tuesday, September 9th is DRS Curriculum Night at 6:30. This event is for parents only, so there is no supervision available for children. Starting next week, September 8th, our students will be transported to the high school during physical education classes for swimming lessons in the pool.

Our school day is from 8:30 A.M. until 3:00 P.M. Students can be dropped off at school as early as 8:00, but not earlier. Supervision on the playground starts at 8:00. At 8:15, all students start coming into the building. Dismissal time is 3:00, but loading buses is a process. It takes about half an hour to load all the buses, so keep that in mind when you’re watching the clock waiting for your child to arrive at home. If you are picking up your child at school, please go directly to the office to sign out your child. Parents and guardians, thank you for your help to ensure that all of our students are safe.

Each year, we set professional goals to help us support student achievement and growth. Our goals this year will focus on literacy, as we continue our work with writing instruction and explore reading engagement within our classrooms and school. Continuing to refine our support models will be some of our work for this year as well. While doing all of this, we will remember to smile and celebrate too.

As we begin the school year, we are welcoming a few new staff members. Sue Williams and Kate Whipple are new classroom teachers at DRS, but both have been teaching in the district prior to this year. Sasha Lavasseur will be teaching technology to our third graders. Rebecca Dilworth is a behavior strategist who will be shared with Wilson School. Stephanie McCoy and Michelle Wintermute are new to the district as special education educational technicians. Ann Dillon has been teaching music at North Yarmouth Memorial School. This year she will continue there but also be teaching our third graders at DRS. Please, help us welcome all of these members of our DRS staff.

I am looking forward to an exciting year full of learning in my first year as the principal here at DRS. I expect to work with teachers, parents/guardians, and teachers as a team to support student learning. Without your help, our work would be much harder.

Sincerely,

Karen Bubar
