Mission Statement-
The NYMS / DRS community supports all learners as they discover and attain their personal bests. We guide and nurture children as they become knowledgeable individuals, effective communicators, critical thinkers, creative problem solvers, healthy individuals, and responsible community members.
Vision Statement-
The North Yarmouth Memorial School and Drowne Road School community is committed to students discovering and attaining their personal bests. At the heart of the organization are the beliefs that all students can learn and that a sense of belonging is essential to success. Each person’s unique qualities and contributions are valued. Risk-taking and innovation are encouraged and all learners benefit from the enthusiasm of others. Responsibility for learning is shared, and leadership emerges from all stake holder groups.
Academic excellence is expected. Teachers, students, and parents are offered countless opportunities to learn and grow. Resources are abundant and varied. Outcomes are clearly articulated and assessment is meaningful and appropriate. Progress is reported clearly and regularly. Accomplishments are noted and celebrated.
Learners at NYMS and DRS understand the purpose and value of the work they do, and set goals to achieve their personal bests. Instruction addresses the knowledge, skills, and attitudes that are needed to thrive in the 21st century. Students value communities, large and small, and understand that their service to society is essential.
Best instructional practice is a constant at NYMS and DRS. All learners are provided with clearly articulated outcomes, adequate materials and support for learning, descriptions and models of exemplary work, and authentic audiences and assessment.
Educating students is a K-12 team effort and students, parents, staff members, board members, and community members work toward our common vision. Ongoing communication is essential to achieving our goals. All stake holders accept responsibility for speaking openly and listening actively. Accurate and concise information is shared with parents, between schools, and to the public. All communication is grounded in our common purpose of maximizing learning for every student. Teamwork and collaboration are fundamental to our success. By sharing our diverse backgrounds and experiences and capitalizing on our different talents and abilities, the sum is truly greater than the parts.
